CTC Exeter Cycling/Camping Weekend
Please note that unfortunately this weekend has had to be cancelled. With weeks of heavy rain the campsite is waterlogged.
Friday 20th July to Sunday 22nd July 2012 - CANCELLED
There will be a cycling/camping weekend based on a campsite near Bere Regis Dorset from Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd July. Both off-road and on-road routes will be available. Evening meals can be taken in the Drax Arms in the centre of the village about a mile away. The campsite is just over 60 miles from Exeter and (with reasonable traffic) the journey takes about 90 minutes.
The Campsite is called Rowlands Wait at Grid Ref SY 844 937 map sheet 194 Dorchester and Weymouth. The address is Rye Hill Bere Regis BH20 7LP Tel 01929 472727. Email firstname.lastname@example.org Website : www.rowlandswait.co.uk Places for twenty people have been provisionally reserved in eight tent sites and two hook-ups for caravan/campers. These bookings are totally flexible. The normal charge is £16.50 for a tent (with two people) and £18.50 for a hook-up. If you mention Exeter Cycle Club you will be given a reduced rate of £10 for a tent and £12.50 for a hook-up. All attendees should ask for the site “Behind the pond”, where all our tents will be together. The hook ups will be separate but fairly nearby. Early booking will better enable the owners Stevie (Stephanie) and Ivor Cargill to meet our request for the separate secluded area.
The Drax Arms is situated in the centre of Bere Regis and enquiries with locals suggested that their food is the best available in the village. Attendees will be asked at the beginning of July to choose from a menu for the Friday night, Saturday’s choice can be made during the Friday meal. For those interested the website is at www.thedraxarms.co.uk Tel 01929 471386. The proprietor is Ben Holden.
The internet reveals that there are two bed and breakfast facilities at The Old Brewery 40 West Street 01929 472432 and Honeycombe Cottage in Sitterton Lane which has one vacancy left at 01929 471660. The other village pub The Royal Oak 01929 471203 also offers accommodation.
When you have made your booking please let me know whether you are tenting, caravanning, or staying locally. It also helps to know whether you plan to cycle “off” or on-road (or both) for planning purposes. As in previous years the plan is to leave the campsite for our respective rides at 0930 each day and start our evening meal circa 7pm. Rowlands Wait has kindly agreed that we can leave our vehicles at the campsite all day Sunday and use their showers on completion of our rides.

Looking forward to the weekend.
