Sunday 17th February 2013 Easy Ride
Report by Paul Harman.
A rare sunny, dry morning produced a turnout of well over twenty riders with around three quarters of the group opting for Chris' middling ride. The new Town Quay bridge in Newton Abbot had opened recently and I had yet to ride over it so I decided to include it on today's ride to the Pickwick Tea House in Teignmouth. We allowed the middling riders to set off first and then we made our way towards Decoy and then over the new bridge in Newton Abbot and up the hill to Teignmouth Golf Club. From there we went down the main road to the coffee stop in Teignmouth.
After coffee myself, Roger, Rob and Terry headed for the lunch stop at Ideford. We came out of Teignmouth and headed up Mill Lane which went up . . . and up . . . and up out of the town back towards the golf club. The only consolation being the fact that we had a strong tailwind to help us up the climb, had it been a headwind we would probably still be there now. I did my best to keep morale up by telling the guys that it was downhill all the way home (apart from the uphill bits). Eventually we reached the summit and from there we had a nice descent down into Luton and then had lunch in Ideford including coffees in the pub there. The final leg had Roger leading us back along the A380 into Kingsteignton and back along the main road to Torquay.
