Sunday 19th May 2013 Easy Ride
Report by Chris Whatley.
There was a good turn out at Kingskerswell Arch. As the easy and Hard rides were meeting for coffee at Totnes Steam Railway it was decided to ride together. The usual route to Ipplepen was taken and then straight onto Littlehempston. There we joined the main Newton Abbot to Totnes road for a short while before turning right just after the new bridge over the Dart to join the Cycleway which skirts the recreation ground and the river to reach the Steam Railway Cafe via the footbridge. Seated outside the cafe in fine weather we were as usual entertained by the dramatic passing of the finely restored steam train. We also enjoyed the free top ups of coffee and tea offered by the Cafe owner. The easy ride continued along the river cycleway to Dartington , and then towards Buckfastleigh taking the Cycleway to Huxhams Cross. The back road to Buckfast which runs parallel and to the left of the main road was taken. We turned right at Buckfast, to Ashburton and then on the Cycleway alongside the Plymouth Road. After crossing the bridge over the dual carriageway the back lanes were followed to Denbury. Light drizzle was falling so sandwiches were eaten in the porch of Denbury Church, care being taken to leave the area crumb free. The ride continued across country to Ipplepen and Marldon where we said goodbye and went our separate ways. As per usual we all felt the day had been very enjoyable.
