Exeter Leisure Rides - 2009
ADULT CYCLING SESSIONS
Cycle Exeter runs a series of eight week cycling sessions for adults during which participants learn the skills required to safely navigate routes around the city.
The Cyclists’ Touring Club (CTC) in Devon organise a range of leisure rides in and around the Exeter Area. Details of each week’s rides are posted in Exeter Central Library and on their web site at http://www.ctcdevon.co.uk/
On each Saturday following Cycle Exeter's eight week Adult Cycling Sessions the CTC will be leading a leisure ride from Exeter's Quay to a nearby cafe. A number of CTC riders will accompany the ride. Although these rides are targeted at participants in the Adult Cycling Sessions - other cyclists are welcome to join in. These rides have been advertised under the heading 'Strictly Come Cycling' with a poster.
Recent graduates of the Adult Cycling Sessions will be entitled to free bike hire for this 'ninth' week – but if you have your own bike it is preferable that you use it.
A typical ride will follow the Exe Estuary Trail – along the canal-side path to Countess Wear, then the off-road route to Topsham. This section is part of SUSTRAN’s National Cycle Network (NCN) Route 2. The distance each way is about 5 miles and takes about 40 minutes to cycle. After a stop in Topsham for refreshments we would return by a different route to Exeter’s Quay. Other destinations - depending on the capability of the riders and numbers - include Exminster, Turf Locks and Powderham.
If you wish to join one of the rides please register with Kirby James by email firstname.lastname@example.org, or by phone or txt 07783 672 516 - indicating whether you will need a hire bike.
It is important that you register so that we can keep track of numbers - which may have to be limited for safety reasons. Participants will be asked to sign a Guest Rider Registration Form which indicates that they accept that the CTC cannot be held responsible for any personal injury, accident, loss, damage or public liability during the activity.
Children are welcome but need to be confident cyclists and accompanied by a parent/carer.
Registered riders should assemble outside Saddles and Paddles on the Quay at 09:45 to prepare for a 10:00 start. We will return to the Quay by 12:30.
A similar ride last year is described here.
