South Devon Section
At The AGM on 12/10/14 the decision was taken, with great regret, to close the South Devon Section. A combination of the loss of 8 stalwart members over the last few years, all for reasons un-related to cycling, together with lack of support from formerly regular members has led to the running of this section being a game which is truly unworthy of the candle. Founded in 1999 by Mike Bowden and for the last 15 years I think the South Hams, then South Devon, section has provided a different style of cycling to other CTC groups and has, until recently, always had a broad range of regulars. We have covered an area often avoided by cyclists due to it’s narrow and hilly lanes, but when you ride them regularly you realise that that is where the charm lies. The regular Sunday rides have covered all of the South Hams and Dartmoor, car-assisted rides and weekend trips have taken in just about all of Devon and parts of Cornwall. My thanks go to all those in the past who have had a hand in leading the rides and the former secretaries who have run the section.
